Nysa (न्यासा) is a modern girls' name in India. Name lists give its meaning as "new beginning", "special" or "goal", but none of these could be traced to a dictionary. In Greek mythology Nysa is the mountain country where nymphs raised the infant god Dionysus, placed by ancient writers in lands as far apart as Thrace, Ethiopia and India. In Hindi it is usually written न्यासा, which looks like the Sanskrit nyāsa, "placing, entrusting", but we found no evidence that the name was formed from that word.
