Baby name generator
Tell us what matters to your family. We suggest 30 names at a time, each with its meaning and the source it comes from.
How to use it
Start broad: pick only a gender and tradition and generate a few times. Tap the heart on anything you like, then narrow with a rashi, a meaning or a length. Your saved names stay on your phone, and Our circle lets your partner add their own picks so you can see where they meet.
How Indian families choose a name
Many Hindu families take the first syllable from the baby's nakshatra and pada, often at the Namkaran. Sikh families often take the first letter from the Hukamnama read at the naming, and many Muslim families name the baby around the aqiqah on the seventh day. Practice varies, and many families simply choose a name they love.
Popular names, honestly
India publishes no national baby-name statistics. For real numbers, see the official 2025 rankings from the United States and England and Wales, including the Indian names that make the US top 1,000.
Questions parents ask
How does the baby name generator work?
Choose as many or as few filters as you like: gender, tradition, origin, first letter, rashi or nakshatra pada, meaning, deity, length, style and numerology. Tap Generate for 30 names from our checked list. If fewer than 30 match everything, we add the closest matches and tell you which filter we relaxed.
Where do the meanings come from?
Every name has a page with its meaning and the dictionary or scripture it comes from: Monier-Williams for Sanskrit, Lane's Lexicon for Arabic, the Guru Granth Sahib and Mahan Kosh for Sikh names, the Tamil Lexicon, and Strong's Concordance for biblical names. When the meaning families use today differs from the original word, we show both.
Can I find names from my baby's nakshatra or rashi?
Yes. Pick a rashi, or a nakshatra and pada, and we show names that begin with that syllable in the North Indian table, plus names that differ only in vowel length. Tables vary by region and family, so confirm the syllable with your priest.
Can it suggest names from both parents' names?
Type both names and we look for real names in our list that share sounds with each of you. We don't invent new blends: every suggestion is a name with a checked meaning.
What does the numerology filter do?
Some families like a name to add up to a particular number. We add the letters using the Chaldean or Pythagorean letter values and reduce the total to one digit. It is a family tradition, not a prediction, and we make no claims about luck.
Which names are most popular in India?
India publishes no national baby-name statistics, so any India ranking you see elsewhere is an estimate. The 'Popular abroad' style uses official 2025 birth data from the United States and England and Wales.
