Walker meaning
Walker is an international boy's name of English origin.
A fuller, one who thickened cloth by treading on it; English occupational surname
Also used to mean: cloth walker
Walker is an English occupational surname. The Online Etymology Dictionary records it from the early thirteenth century and explains it as one who fulled cloth: newly woven wool was soaked and trodden underfoot to clean and thicken it, and the worker who did this was a walker. Middle Dutch and German walken, 'to full', show the same sense. The same trade gave the surnames Fuller and Tucker. The surname became a first name in the United States. Baby-name lists give 'cloth walker' or 'fuller', which matches. It is said WAW-ker and sits easily with Indian surnames.
