Gurleen meaning
Gurleen (ਗੁਰਲੀਨ) is a Sikh girl's name of Punjabi origin.
Absorbed in the Guru
Gurleen (ਗੁਰਲੀਨ) is a modern Sikh compound of gur, the Guru or spiritual teacher, and līn, "absorbed". The Mahan Kosh traces līn to Sanskrit and lists "merged", "immersed, absorbed" and "dissolved" among its senses, and the Guru Granth Sahib often uses it this way, as in ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਲੀਨ, "absorbed in the Lord's essence", at Ang 1428. The full name does not occur in scripture, but it follows a familiar pattern: Harleen, Prabhleen and Gurleen all describe a mind lost in devotion. Baby-name lists agree on "absorbed in the Guru", which matches the sources. In some lines līn means "taken" instead, but the name uses the sense "absorbed". Gurleen is mostly a girl's name, usually as Gurleen Kaur.
