Gurkirat meaning
Gurkirat (ਗੁਰਕੀਰਤ) is a Sikh unisex name of Punjabi origin, used for both girls and boys.
Glory or praise (kīrti) of the Guru
Gurkirat (ਗੁਰਕੀਰਤ) joins gur, the Guru, with kīrat, from Sanskrit kīrti. The Mahan Kosh gives kīrti as greatness, a good name, and praise or fame, and the Guru Granth Sahib uses it both for renown and for the praise of the Lord, as in the Japji at Ang 2. So the name means "the Guru's glory" or "praise of the Guru", and baby-name lists render it the same way, as "one who sings the Guru's praises". The spelling matters: written ਗੁਰਕਿਰਤ, with a short i, the second part would be ਕਿਰਤ, work or deeds, which is why a few lists explain the name through honest work instead. Like most Sikh names it is used for boys and girls.
