Gursimran meaning
Gursimran (ਗੁਰਸਿਮਰਨ) is a Sikh unisex name of Punjabi origin, used for both girls and boys.
Remembrance (simran) of the Guru
Gursimran (ਗੁਰਸਿਮਰਨ) joins gur, the Guru, with simran, remembrance. The Mahan Kosh traces simran (ਸਿਮਰਣ) to Sanskrit smaraṇa, remembering; in Sikh practice it means keeping the divine Name in mind through repetition and meditation, a theme the Guru Granth Sahib returns to again and again (for example Ang 189). Gur is the Guru, the teacher who dispels ignorance, as in ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ, "by the Guru's grace", on Ang 1. Read together, the name means remembrance of the Guru, or one who keeps the Guru in mind, and name lists explain it the same way. The full name is a modern compound. It is given to both boys and girls, and Simran on its own is also a name.
