Gurbachan meaning
Gurbachan (ਗੁਰਬਚਨ) is a Sikh boy's name of Punjabi origin, also used for girls.
The Guru's word or teaching
Gurbachan (ਗੁਰਬਚਨ) joins gur, the Guru, with bachan, word or utterance (Mahan Kosh, from Sanskrit vacana). The Guru Granth Sahib often speaks of living by the Guru's word, as in gur bachanī on Ang 82. Sikh name lists give "one who abides by the Guru's word", and others simply "the Guru's word". It is an older name, used mostly for men but also for women. The athlete Gurbachan Singh Randhawa, Asian Games decathlon champion in 1962, is a well-known bearer.
