Harjot meaning
Harjot (ਹਰਜੋਤ) is a Sikh unisex name of Punjabi origin, used for both girls and boys.
Light of God (Hari)
Harjot (ਹਰਜੋਤ) joins har(i), God, with jot, "light". The Mahan Kosh derives jot from Sanskrit jyotis and gives it as brightness, fire, the sun, moon and stars, God, and the light of the soul. The phrase hari jot, "the light of God", occurs in the Guru Granth Sahib, for example in Guru Ram Das's hymn at Ang 669 and Guru Amar Das's at Ang 921, so the name has a direct scriptural echo. Baby-name lists give "God's light" or "light of God", matching these sources. Harjot is used for boys and girls, with Singh or Kaur showing which. It belongs to a family of jot names, among them Ekamjot, Gurjot and Navjot.
