Luna meaning
Luna is an international girl's name of Latin origin.
The moon; also Luna, the Roman moon goddess
Luna is the Latin word for the moon. Lewis & Short explain luna as a shortened luc-na, from the same root as luceo, "to shine", so the moon is "the shining one". The word could also mean a month, a night or a crescent shape, and as a person Luna was the Roman goddess of the moon, whose temple stood on the Aventine hill in Rome. The word survives in Italian and Spanish luna and in English lunar. For Indian parents Luna sits beside moon names such as Chandni, Chandra and Soma. It is said LOO-nuh.
