Also used to mean: from Scotland
Scottie is a pet form of Scott, an English surname from Old English Scott, "a Scot". The Online Etymology Dictionary notes that Old English Scottas first meant the people of Ireland, from Late Latin Scotti, a name of uncertain origin; the Scots later settled in what became Scotland and gave it their name. Etymonline also records Scottie from 1907 as a pet name for the Scotch terrier. A famous bearer was Frances "Scottie" Fitzgerald, daughter of the writer F. Scott Fitzgerald. In the US Scottie is now used mostly for girls. It is said SKOT-ee.
