Victoria meaning
Victoria is an international girl's name of Latin origin.
Victory; Latin victoria, also the Roman goddess of victory
Victoria is the Latin word for victory. Lewis & Short give victoria for a victory in war or in a contest, a shout of triumph, and Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory, whose statues stood in the Senate house. The name became world famous through Queen Victoria, who reigned over Britain from 1837 to 1901 and was proclaimed Empress of India in 1877; Mumbai's old Victoria Terminus and Kolkata's Victoria Memorial carry her name. For Indian parents its meaning is the same as Vijaya and Jaya. It is said vik-TOR-ee-uh, with the short forms Vicky and Tori.
