Aindrila (ऐन्द्रिला, Bengali ঐন্দ্রিলা) is a Bengali girls' name that seems to be built on Sanskrit aindra, "belonging to Indra". Name lists usually give it as "daughter of Indra". The Samsad Bengali–English Dictionary, however, defines aindrilā as the wife of the demon Vritra, Indra's great enemy in the Vedic myths. Monier-Williams has no entry for aindrilā, though it lists aindrī, "of Indra", as Indra's energy personified as his wife. So the popular meaning looks like a modern reading of the Indra link. The Bengali actress Aindrila Sharma carried the name.
