Asit meaning
Asit (असित) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Dark-coloured, black; name of a Vedic seer
Also used to mean: black, dark, unbounded
Asit (असित) is Sanskrit asita, "dark-coloured, black", the opposite of sita, "white". Monier-Williams also lists it as a name for the planet Saturn and for several ancient figures, chief among them the seer Asita, also called Asita Devala, to whom a group of hymns in the ninth book of the Rig Veda is attributed. A separate word, a-sita, means "unbound", which is why some name lists give Asit as "unbounded". As with Krishna and Shyam, a name meaning "dark" has long been given to boys with pride.
