Anirban meaning
Anirban (अनिर्बान) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali usage). By its first sound, अ, it is a Mesh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Unextinguished
Anirban (অনির্বাণ) is the Bengali form of Sanskrit anirvāṇa, which Monier-Williams defines in one word: unextinguished. It is the negative of nirvāṇa, "blown out" or "extinguished", the word used for a flame that has gone out and, in Buddhist and Hindu thought, for the stilling of worldly desire. So the name describes something still burning. Name lists today usually explain it as an undying flame, which is a fair picture of the dictionary sense. The spelling with b follows Bengali pronunciation; Anirvan is the same name written closer to Sanskrit. A well-known bearer is the golfer Anirban Lahiri.
