Dean meaning
Dean is an international boy's name.
Valley (Old English denu); or a dean, a church or college head
Also used to mean: leader
Dean is an English surname with two different roots. Most often it named a family living in a valley: the Online Etymology Dictionary traces the old word dene, a small wooded valley, to Old English denu, "valley". It could also come from the title dean, which goes back through Old French to Late Latin decanus, the head of a group of ten monks, and ultimately to Greek deka, "ten". So name lists give both "valley" and "leader". It is one syllable, easy to say, and pairs well with Indian surnames.
