Dona meaning
Dona is a Christian girl's name.
Lady, mistress; from Latin domina
Dona is the Portuguese and Spanish title for a lady, as in Dona Maria, and goes back to Latin domina, which Lewis & Short define as 'mistress, she who rules a household'. Domina is the feminine of dominus, 'lord', the word Latin Christians used for God, and Italian donna and the Marian title Madonna, 'my lady', come from the same source. In India Dona is a girls' name used mainly among Kerala Christians. Name lists give its meaning as 'lady'.
