Fateh meaning
Fateh (ਫ਼ਤਿਹ) is a Sikh boy's name of Arabic origin.
Victory, success; also the Khalsa greeting
Fateh (ਫ਼ਤਿਹ) comes from Arabic fatḥ, whose root sense is an opening, and from that a conquest. The Mahan Kosh of Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha gives three senses: victory or conquest, success or accomplishment, and the greeting Khalsa Sikhs exchange when they meet, Vāhigurū jī kā Khālsā, Vāhigurū jī kī Fateh, "the Khalsa belongs to God, and so does the victory". The word itself does not occur in the Guru Granth Sahib. Baby-name lists agree on "victory". In Sikh memory the name belongs above all to Sahibzada Fateh Singh, the youngest son of Guru Gobind Singh, who was put to death with his brother Zorawar Singh at Sirhind in December 1705; Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib now marks the place.
