Shamsher meaning
Shamsher (ਸ਼ਮਸ਼ੇਰ) is a Sikh, Hindu and Muslim boy's name of Persian origin (Punjabi usage).
A sword, a scimitar or sabre
Shamsher (ਸ਼ਮਸ਼ੇਰ) is the Persian word for a sword, especially the curved sabre known in English as the scimitar. Steingass's Persian dictionary gives a sword, scimitar or sabre, and compounds such as shamsher-zan, one who wields a sword, a brave soldier. The word passed into Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu, and as a name it stands for courage and martial skill, much like Tegbir, from teg, another word for a sword. Name lists give the same meaning. Shamsher is a boys' name used by Sikhs and also by Hindu and Muslim families.
