Gopika meaning
Gopika (गोपिका) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, गो, it is a Kumbh rashi name (Shatabhisha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A cowherd's wife, cowherdess; a protectress
Gopika (गोपिका) is Sanskrit gopikā, which Monier-Williams gives as the feminine of gopaka, "cowherd": "a cowherd's wife, cowherdess", and also, from Wilson's dictionary, "a protectress". The dictionary's citation is the tenth book of the Bhāgavata Purāṇa, the book that tells of Kṛṣṇa's childhood among the cowherds, and the gopikās, or gopīs, are the milkmaids of those stories who are devoted to him. In the bhakti tradition their love for Kṛṣṇa is read as a picture of the loving bond between the human soul and God. Baby-name lists give "cowherd girl" and link the name to Kṛṣṇa, sometimes to Rādhā, which matches the dictionary and the stories.
