Norbert meaning
Norbert is a Christian boy's name of Germanic origin.
North + bright, shining (Old High German nord, beraht)
Also used to mean: bright north, famous in the north
Norbert is an old Germanic name made of two parts: nord, 'north', and beraht, 'bright, shining, famous'. Köbler's Old High German dictionary records both words and notes that beraht lives on in names ending in -bert, such as Albert and Robert. So the name is read as 'bright north' or 'famous in the north'. Its Christian fame comes from St Norbert of Xanten (about 1080–1134), who founded the Premonstratensian canons, also called Norbertines. In India Norbert is used by Mangalorean and Goan Catholics.
