Tanya (तान्या) is best explained as a Russian name: Wikipedia describes it as the Slavic pet form of Tatiana, the name made famous by the heroine of Pushkin's verse novel Eugene Onegin. It is now used in India, and Indian name lists often give it a Sanskrit meaning, "daughter". That gloss seems to come from Sanskrit tanayā, which Monier-Williams does give as "a daughter", but tanayā is a different word, said ta-na-yaa and written तनया, so the link is a modern one rather than the name's origin. Other lists offer "fairy queen" or "princess", which we could not trace to any source.
