Tommy meaning
Tommy is an international and Christian boy's name of Aramaic origin (English pet form).
Pet form of Thomas, "the twin"
Tommy is the pet form of Thomas, used in England since at least the fourteenth century according to the Online Etymology Dictionary. Thomas is the apostle 'called Didymus', and Strong's glosses the Greek Thōmas as 'the twin', from an Aramaic word matching Hebrew ta'om. The apostle Thomas holds a special place in India: Christian tradition in Kerala holds that he preached on the Malabar coast, and the Saint Thomas Christians are named after him. In Britain 'Tommy' became the nickname for a private soldier, from Thomas Atkins, the sample name on army forms. It is said TOM-ee.
