Jasper meaning
Jasper is an international and Christian boy's name of Persian origin (via Latin and English).
English form of Caspar, one of the Magi; said to mean "treasurer"
Also used to mean: bringer of treasure
Jasper is the English form of Caspar or Gaspar, the name Christian tradition gives to one of the three wise men who brought gifts to the infant Jesus; the Gospel itself does not name them. The Online Etymology Dictionary reports the scholar Ernest Klein's view that the name is of Persian origin and means "treasure-holder", which is why name lists give "treasurer" or "bringer of treasure". The same spelling is also the English name of the gemstone jasper, from Greek iaspis, a different word with its own history. For Indian families it is easy to say and spell, and it pairs well with Indian surnames.
