Umesh (उमेश) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, उ, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Lord of Umā; a name of Shiva
Umesh (उमेश) is the Sanskrit umeśa, from umā and īśa, "lord": the lord of Umā, a name of Śiva. Monier-Williams identifies Umā as the daughter of Himavat, the mountain, and the wife of Śiva, also called Pārvatī and Durgā. It adds a traditional explanation of her name, from words her mother is said to have spoken to stop her from practising austerities. The dictionary also records umeśa as the name of an image showing Śiva joined with Umā, mentioned in the Matsya Purāṇa. Indian name lists give Umesh as "lord of Uma" or "Lord Shiva", which matches the dictionary exactly.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Shiva.
