Mukund meaning
Mukund (मुकुंद) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
A name of Vishnu, sometimes applied to Shiva
Also used to mean: giver of liberation
Mukund (मुकुंद) is Sanskrit mukunda, which Monier-Williams records as a name of Vishnu in the Mahābhārata and the Bhāgavata Purāṇa, sometimes also applied to Shiva. MW also lists it as a particular treasure, a kind of precious stone, a kettle-drum and the name of several scholars. On Indian name lists Mukund is usually explained as "giver of liberation". That reading is old: the Sanskrit lexicographers recorded a word muku, "liberation", and MW notes that it was devised to explain mukunda in exactly this way, while others take the first part as mukum. So the popular meaning is a traditional explanation of the name rather than a proven etymology. In devotional use Mukunda is also a name of Krishna.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Vishnu.
