Badal meaning

Badal (बादल) is a Hindu boy's name of Hindi origin (from Sanskrit).

Cloud

Badal (बादल) is the everyday Hindi word for a cloud. Platts' Hindi dictionary of 1884 records bādal as "cloud" and traces it to Sanskrit vārdala, which Monier-Williams gives as a rainy day or bad weather, or to vārida, literally "water-giver", a poetic Sanskrit word for a rain-cloud. Baby-name lists give the name simply as "cloud", which matches the dictionary. In Indian poetry and film songs the monsoon cloud is a welcome image of rain after the summer heat. The name has nothing to do with the Arabic word badal, "change", which only sounds similar.
