Jeevan meaning
Jeevan (जीवन) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, जी, it is a Makar rashi name (Uttara Ashadha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Life; giving life, enlivening; water
Jeevan (जीवन) is Sanskrit jīvana, from the root jīv, 'to live'. Monier-Williams gives it as an adjective meaning vivifying or giving life, and as a noun meaning life itself, the way one lives, and livelihood. The same entry records water, the element that sustains all life, as a further sense, which gives the name a quietly poetic layer beneath its plain meaning. In Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, Bengali and most other Indian languages jīvan is still the everyday word for life, so the name is understood almost everywhere in India and needs no explanation. Jivan and Jeewan are other spellings of the same name, and Jeevika is a related feminine name from the same root.
