Upkar meaning
Upkar (उपकार) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Hindi and Punjabi usage). By its first sound, उ, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Krittika nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Help, assistance, benefit, service, favour; use, advantage
Also used to mean: kindness
Upkar (उपकार) is the Sanskrit upakāra, from upa-kṛ, "to do a service". Monier-Williams gives it as help, assistance, benefit, service and favour, and also as use or advantage; in festive contexts it could mean decoration, such as the garlands hung over gateways. In Hindi and Punjabi upkār is still the everyday word for a kindness or good turn, and the 1967 Hindi film Upkar used it in this sense. Name lists give "kindness", "favour" or "benefit", which matches. The name is used by Hindu and Sikh families.
