Aaliya meaning
Aaliya (عالیہ) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin.
High, elevated, lofty
Also used to mean: exalted, sublime
Aaliya (عالیہ) is the feminine of Arabic ʿālin, from the root ʿ-l-w, "to be high". Lane's Lexicon equates ʿālin with ʿaliyy, "high, elevated, or lofty", and notes that of a person it can mean eminent or noble. The Quran describes paradise as "an elevated garden", jannatin ʿāliya (69:22 and 88:10), and the same root gives al-ʿAliyy, "the Most High", a divine name heard at the close of the Throne Verse (2:255). Name lists today give "exalted" or "sublime", which stay close to the dictionary sense. Aaliya shares its root with the boys' name Ali. The Hebrew aliyah, "ascent", sounds similar but is a separate word. The American singer Aaliyah (1979–2001) bore another spelling of the name.
