Aashay meaning
Aashay (आशय) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Seat or abode; the mind or heart; meaning, intention
Also used to mean: purpose, hope
Aashay (आशय) comes from Sanskrit āśaya, formed from ā- and the verb śī, "to lie, to rest". Its first sense in Monier-Williams is a resting place, seat or abode. From there it came to mean the seat of feelings and thoughts, the mind or heart, and then thought, meaning or intention, the sense the word still has in Hindi and Marathi, where āśay is the gist or purpose of something said. Name lists give Aashay as "intention" or "purpose", which fits the dictionary; the gloss "hope" that some lists add is not among its dictionary senses. The name is used in Maharashtra.
