Damodar meaning
Damodar (दामोदर) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, दा, it is a Kumbh rashi name (Purva Bhadrapada nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A name of Krishna, 'having a rope round the waist'
Damodar (दामोदर) is the Sanskrit dāmodara, from dāman, "rope", and udara, "belly, waist", so literally "having a rope round the waist". Monier-Williams gives it as a name of Kṛṣṇa in the Mahābhārata and the Harivaṃśa. The name recalls a much-loved childhood story told in the Bhāgavata Purāṇa, in which Kṛṣṇa's foster mother Yaśodā ties the mischievous child to a heavy wooden mortar with a rope. Monier-Williams also records Dāmodara as the name of the twelfth month and of two kings of Kashmir. The Damodar River, which rises on the Chota Nagpur plateau and flows east through West Bengal to the Hooghly, bears the same name. Name lists give Damodar as a name of Krishna, matching the dictionary.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Krishna.
