Damanpreet meaning
Damanpreet (ਦਮਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ) is a Sikh unisex name of Punjabi origin, used for both girls and boys.
Daman (self-restraint, subduing) joined with prīti (love)
Damanpreet (ਦਮਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ) is a modern Punjabi compound. Daman comes from Sanskrit damana, which the Mahan Kosh explains as subduing or holding down, as a penalty that keeps someone in check, and, in its moral sense, as restraint of the senses. Prīt, from Sanskrit prīti, means love or affection. Read together, the name joins love with self-control. Some name lists explain daman instead as "embrace" or "protection". The Mahan Kosh does have a separate Persian word, dāman, the hem or skirt of a garment, but it is spelt with a long ā, unlike this name. Damanpreet is given to both boys and girls in Sikh families.
