Damayanti meaning
Damayanti (दमयन्ती) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
'subduing (men)'; the wife of Nala; also a kind of jasmine
Also used to mean: subduer
Damayanti (दमयन्ती) is the heroine of one of the best-loved stories in the Mahabharata. Her name comes from the Sanskrit verb dam, "to tame", and Monier-Williams glosses it "subduing (men)". She was the daughter of King Bhīma of Vidarbha; at her svayaṃvara she chose King Nala even when four gods appeared in his form, and she stayed faithful to him through his loss at dice, exile and separation. Monier-Williams also records damayantī as a kind of jasmine. Name lists give "one who subdues". In Hindi it is often written Damyanti.
