Sriparna (श्रीपर्णा) joins śrī, "beauty, splendour, fortune", with parṇa, "a leaf" (literally "a wing", a leaf being the tree's plumage). Monier-Williams records śrīparṇa as "a lotus" and as the name of a shrub, and śrīparṇī as the gamhar tree, Gmelina arborea. Name lists explain Sriparna as "prosperous" or "adorned with leaves", which come from the parts rather than from the dictionary senses. The name is chiefly Bengali, written শ্রীপর্ণা, and is also spelled Shriparna.
