Atreyi meaning
Atreyi (आत्रेयी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali usage).
A woman descended from Atri; name of a river in north Bengal
Also used to mean: daughter of Atri
Atreyi (आत्रेयी) is the feminine of Sanskrit ātreya, "descendant of Atri", one of the seven great sages of Hindu tradition and the husband of Anasuya. Monier-Williams gives ātreyī as a woman of Atri's line and also as the name of a river in north Bengal, mentioned in the Mahabharata. That river survives as the Atrai, or Atreyee, which flows through West Bengal and Bangladesh. The name is used mainly in Bengali families, also spelt Atrayee or Atreyee, and name lists give it simply as Atri's daughter.
