Yamuna meaning
Yamuna (यमुना) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
The river Yamuna (Jumna), identified with Yamī
Also used to mean: sacred river
Yamuna (यमुना) is the name of the sacred river that rises in the Himalaya and joins the Ganga at Prayagraj. Monier-Williams records yamunā as the river commonly called the Jumna and notes that the Puranas identify it with Yami, the twin sister of Yama, which is why some name lists give "twin". In Krishna stories the Yamuna flows past Mathura and Vrindavan, and the goddess Yamuna is worshipped as a giver of life. Yamuna is also a Marathi girls' name, and the form Jamuna is used in other regions.
