Yami meaning
Yami (यामी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, या, it is a Vrishchik rashi name (Jyeshtha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A daughter of Daksha, wife of Dharma; an apsaras
Yami (यामी) is Sanskrit yāmī, which Monier-Williams records from the Harivaṃśa and the Purāṇas as a daughter of Dakṣa, married to Dharma or to Manu, and as the name of an Apsaras. MW also gives yāmi or yāmī as a word for a sister or female relative. A different name, Yamī, with a short first vowel, is Yama's twin sister in the Ṛgveda, whom later mythology identifies with the river goddess Yamunā. Some name lists connect Yami with that Vedic figure or with the Yamunā; strictly, that link belongs to yamī, though the two are easily confused in English spelling. A well-known bearer is the actor Yami Gautam, known for Hindi films such as Vicky Donor and Uri.
