Yamini meaning
Yamini (यामिनी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, या, it is a Vrishchik rashi name (Jyeshtha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Night
Yamini (यामिनी) is Sanskrit yāminī, "night", which Monier-Williams derives from yāma, one of the watches into which the night was divided, so the word literally means "consisting of watches". MW cites it from the Mahābhārata and classical poetry, and also records Yāminī as a daughter of Prahlāda in the Kathāsaritsāgara and as the wife of Tārkṣa and mother of Śalabha in the Bhāgavata Purāṇa. Indian name lists give Yamini as night, sometimes poeticised as starry night, which matches the dictionary; a few link it with the river Yamunā, a connection we could not find in the dictionaries. A celebrated bearer was the dancer Yamini Krishnamurthy, a leading Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi artist.
