Shampa meaning
Shampa (शम्पा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali usage).
Lightning; a girdle
Shampa (शम्पा, Bengali শম্পা) is the Sanskrit word śampā, which Monier-Williams gives as "lightning" and also "a girdle", both taken from the medieval lexicon of Halāyudha. It is one of several poetic Sanskrit words for lightning, alongside vidyut, saudāminī and cañcalā. Name lists give Shampa as "lightning", which is the dictionary meaning. The name is Bengali, used in West Bengal, Tripura and Bangladesh, and in Bengali it is pronounced with a rounded first vowel, close to "Shompa".
