Savita meaning
Savita (सविता) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
The sun as rouser and vivifier; the sun-god Savitṛ
Also used to mean: sun's ray
Savita (सविता) is the Sanskrit savitā, the nominative form of savitṛ, from the verb sū, "to set in motion, to quicken". Monier-Williams gives savitṛ as a stimulator, rouser and vivifier, and as the Vedic god who stands for the life-giving power of the sun, as distinct from Sūrya, the sun itself; it can also mean the sun's orb. The famous Gāyatrī mantra of the Rigveda is addressed to Savitṛ. The word is grammatically masculine, but in modern India Savita is used almost only for girls. Name lists give "sun" or "sun's ray". In South India it is often spelled Savitha.
