Nibha (निभा) is usually explained on Indian name lists as "light" or "radiance". The Sanskrit word nibha, which Monier-Williams records from the Mahābhārata and Rāmāyaṇa, means "resembling" or "like" and is used at the end of compounds, as in "like a mountain"; as a noun it means appearance. It is built on the root bhā, "to shine, to appear", the same root as ābhā and prabhā, "light". That root may explain the popular sense, but the dictionary meaning of nibha itself is "resembling". The name is used mainly in Hindi- and Bengali-speaking families.
