Deepanjali meaning
Deepanjali (दीपांजलि) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, दी, it is a Meen rashi name (Purva Bhadrapada nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
An offering of lamps (dīpa + añjali)
Deepanjali (दीपांजलि) joins two Sanskrit words. Dīpa is a light or lamp, and añjali, in Monier-Williams, is the two open hands held together and slightly hollowed, the gesture of offering, greeting and reverence, and also an offering made with the joined hands. Deepanjali therefore means "an offering of lamps", the picture of lamps held up in worship, as in the evening ārati. The compound is a later formation and is not itself listed in the dictionary, but its parts are common. Name lists give the same meaning. Related names include Deepa, Deepali and Anjali.
