Deeksha meaning
Deeksha (दीक्षा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, दी, it is a Meen rashi name (Purva Bhadrapada nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Consecration, initiation; dedication
Deeksha (दीक्षा) is the Sanskrit dīkṣā, preparation or consecration for a religious rite, and so initiation. Monier-Williams also gives the sense of complete devotion to a person or a god, and notes that Dīkṣā is personified as the wife of Soma and, in the Purāṇas, as the wife of Rudra. In later and modern Hinduism dīkṣā is the rite by which a guru initiates a disciple: Britannica describes preparatory fasting and bathing, marks placed on the body, a new name, and a mantra given by the teacher. Name lists give Deeksha as "initiation" or "dedication", matching the dictionary. Diksha is another spelling of the same name.
