Devapriya meaning
Devapriya (देवप्रिया) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, दे, it is a Meen rashi name (Revati nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Dear to the gods
Also used to mean: beloved of God
Devapriya (देवप्रिया) is the feminine of the Sanskrit deva-priya, made from deva, "god", and priya, "dear, beloved". Monier-Williams gives it as "dear to the gods", and also records Devapriya as a name of Śiva. The longer form devānāṃ-priya, "beloved of the gods", was the royal title of the emperor Aśoka in his inscriptions, although later grammarians used it jokingly for a simpleton. Indian name lists give Devapriya as "dear to the gods", which matches the dictionary. It is used for girls in Kerala and elsewhere; the Bengali form Debapriya is often a boys' name.
