Hemangi meaning
Hemangi (हेमांगी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, हे, it is a Kark rashi name (Pushya nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Golden-limbed, golden
Hemangi (हेमांगी) is the feminine of the Sanskrit adjective hemāṅga, from hema, "gold", and aṅga, "limb, body". Monier-Williams glosses it as "having golden limbs or parts, golden", citing the Rāmāyaṇa among other works, and shows hemāṅgī as its regular feminine. As a masculine noun hemāṅga names the champak tree, a lion, the golden mountain Meru, and Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Garuḍa, the great bird on which Viṣṇu rides. Baby-name lists give "golden body" or "girl with a golden body", which matches the dictionary. The name belongs with Hema and Hemalata in a family of names built on hema, "gold".
