Rupa meaning
Rupa (रूपा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, रू, it is a Tula rashi name (Swati nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Form, shape; handsome form, loveliness, beauty
Rupa (रूपा) takes its meaning from Sanskrit rūpa, outward appearance, form, shape or figure, and also a handsome form, loveliness, grace and beauty. The word has a wide range in Monier-Williams: colour, likeness or image, nature and character, and a show or drama; in Vaiśeṣika philosophy it is the quality of colour, and in Buddhism material form, the first of the five skandhas. The feminine rūpā itself appears in MW only as the name of a river in the Viṣṇu Purāṇa, so the girl's name draws on the noun. Name lists give the same meanings, "form" or "beauty". The name is also spelled Roopa, and the same word underlies svarūpa, "one's own form or nature".
