Chitrangada meaning
Chitrangada (चित्रांगदा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Wife of Arjuna, princess of Manipura; citrāṅgada, wearing bright bracelets
Also used to mean: arjuna's wife, beautiful body
Chitrangada (चित्रांगदा) joins Sanskrit citra, "bright, many-coloured", with aṅgada, "an armlet". Monier-Williams gives citrāṅgada as "decorated with variegated bracelets", and records Citrāṅgadā as an Apsaras and as the wife of Arjuna, daughter of King Chitravahana of Manipura and mother of Babhruvahana. In the Mahabharata she is a warrior princess, and Rabindranath Tagore retold her story in his dance-drama Chitrangada. Some baby-name lists read the name as "beautiful body", taking aṅga as "limb". The actress Chitrangada Singh bears the name.
