Kesar meaning
Kesar (केसर) is a Hindu girl's name of Hindi origin (from Sanskrit kesara). By its first sound, के, it is a Mithun rashi name (Punarvasu nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Saffron; saffron colour
Kesar (केसर) is the Hindi word for saffron, the precious golden-red spice from the crocus flower grown in Kashmir. Platts's dictionary gives saffron first, then saffron or yellow colour and a few fragrant flowering plants such as the night jasmine. The word goes back to Sanskrit kesara, the filament or stamen of a flower, which is exactly the part of the crocus that becomes saffron. Name lists give "saffron", matching the dictionary. It is a short, warm name with a rich colour behind it.
