Mahasweta meaning
Mahasweta (महाश्वेता) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali usage).
Dazzling white; a name of Durga and of Saraswati
Also used to mean: great white
Mahasweta (महाश्वेता) joins Sanskrit mahā, "great", and śveta, "white". Monier-Williams gives mahāśveta as very white or of dazzling whiteness, and the feminine mahāśvetā as a name of Durgā and of Sarasvatī, the goddess of learning who is pictured in white. In Bāṇabhaṭṭa's seventh-century prose romance Kādambarī, Mahāśvetā is the devoted heroine who waits as an ascetic for her lost love. Name lists give great white or Saraswati. The name is best known from Mahasweta Devi, the Bengali novelist and activist who won the Jnanpith Award.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Saraswati.
