Vanya meaning
Vanya (वन्या) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Of the forest, wild; (vanyā) a large forest; a flood
Vanya (वन्या) comes from Sanskrit vana, "forest". The adjective vanya means growing or living in a forest, or wild, and Monier-Williams glosses the feminine noun vanyā as "a multitude of groves, a large forest", and also as an abundance of water or a flood. So the name carries the picture of deep woodland and of nature in its wild, flourishing state. Indian name lists give Vanya as "forest" or "of the forest", which matches the dictionary. A few lists add meanings such as "gracious" or "gift of God", which we could not find in the Sanskrit dictionaries. The Indian name is unrelated to the Russian Vanya, a boy's pet form of Ivan.
